ABS has excellent impact resistance coupled with superior toughness and rigidity. ABS is suitable for a range of internal applications such as automotive trim panels to industrial casings, guards etc.

ABS is one of the most widely used engineering thermoplastics due to its balanced mechanical properties and ease of fabrication. It can be vacuum formed, machined, bonded, and painted, making it ideal for prototyping and production parts alike.

Fabrication & Processing

ABS is one of the easiest engineering plastics to fabricate. It machines cleanly, vacuum forms at relatively low temperatures (150–170°C), and can be bonded using solvent cements or structural adhesives. ABS can also be painted, plated, and screen printed.

Vacuum forming — excellent draw ratios with consistent wall thickness
CNC machining — clean cuts with minimal burring
Bonding — use MEK or specialist ABS cement
Painting — accepts spray paint directly without primer
Line bending — heats evenly for sharp, clean bends

Frequently Asked Questions

Can ABS be used outdoors?+
ABS is not recommended for outdoor applications as it has poor UV resistance and will yellow and become brittle with prolonged sun exposure. For outdoor applications, consider acrylic, polycarbonate, or ASA (ABS with UV stabiliser).
What adhesive should I use for ABS?+
For structural bonds, use MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) solvent cement which chemically welds ABS pieces together. For bonding ABS to dissimilar materials, use a two-part structural adhesive like epoxy or polyurethane.
Is ABS food safe?+
Standard ABS sheet is not food-grade. If you need food-contact ABS, specify food-grade ABS which meets FDA and food safety standards. Contact us for availability.
