Fast Delivery

HDPE is a very rigid material for use in general plant engineering, tank construction and waste water industries. Where all round chemical resistance and weather ability is required.

HDPE is one of the most versatile engineering plastics available, combining excellent chemical resistance with good impact strength and abrasion resistance. Black HDPE grades contain UV stabilisers making them suitable for outdoor applications including water tanks, playground equipment, and marine fittings.

Fabrication & Processing

HDPE machines very well and can be welded using hot air or extrusion welding techniques. It can be CNC routed, saw cut, drilled, and turned on a lathe. HDPE cannot be solvent bonded — use hot air welding or mechanical fasteners.

CNC machining — produces clean edges, no coolant required
Hot air welding — for tank fabrication and structural joints
Extrusion welding — for thick section butt joints
Bending — can be heat bent with a strip heater
Drilling — use sharp HSS bits with positive rake angle

Frequently Asked Questions

What is HDPE typically used for?+
HDPE is one of the most versatile engineering plastics we supply. Common uses include cutting boards and food processing surfaces, water and chemical storage tanks, machine guards, marine fittings (bait boards, fish boxes, hatches), playground equipment, pipe fittings, abrasion liners, and general fabricated parts where chemical resistance and impact strength are needed.
How well does HDPE perform outdoors and in UV?+
Black HDPE is UV stabilised and well suited to long-term outdoor use — water tanks, marine fittings, and exterior signage all run on black grade. Natural and white HDPE are not UV stabilised and will chalk and become brittle if left in direct sunlight. For any external application, specify black HDPE.
What welding methods can I use on HDPE?+
HDPE cannot be solvent bonded — its low surface energy makes adhesives unreliable. The proper joining methods are hot air welding (for tank fabrication and structural seams), extrusion welding (for thick-section butt joints), butt fusion (for pipe and heavy plate), and mechanical fastening with stainless screws, rivets or bolts. We can recommend a fabricator if you need welded HDPE work.
What are the lead times for cut-to-size HDPE?+
Standard cut-to-size orders from stock sheet are typically ready within 1–2 business days. Larger jobs, full sheet routing, or non-stock thicknesses may take 3–5 business days. Call us on (07) 5564 6744 with your sizes and we'll confirm a firm lead time and quote.
